Vintage embroidered bird, perhaps a parrot, perched on a branch, worked on moiré silk on a steel hoop, this piece is so beautiful despite its age and wear! Acquired from France, through Maison Bleu Lin, purveyor of fine antique textile treasures. it certainly dates back to the late 1800s or early 1900s.
The silk backing is so old it is brittle, cracking (see photos 5 and 6), has been glued (photo 5), and is simply cracking off its hoop. To save it, I have used silk emboridery thread to stitch it to the vintage green velvet )from my other-in-law's beloved bed-jacket), which will cushion it. It is framed in a repurposed frame, which mearsures 14" wide by 12" tall.
