The beautiful trees which shelter and feed so many vary from area to area, yet many are recognizable. Being native of the SouthWest, these are the ones I know best, along with a few of their smallest inhabitants:  The Douglas fir of the high country with a dragonfly and hungry mouse, the aspen (or cottonwood, close cousins and both unique to this land) with a cricket, the maple (closely resembling the sycamore of Eastern regions) with a reaching inchworm,  the oak which spans the globe in many varieties paired with a snail, the Pinon pine with a little moth, and the willow hiding a small spider.

Free-hand embroidered using my straight-stitch sewing machine on a base of Canopy motif hand-woven cotton by Greentree Weaving, lined and stabilized with a lovely leaf print which echoes the theme.

This beauty measures approximately 7.5"wide x 60" long.
