In the far Southern Seas around Antarctica, these Gentoo Penguins live.  They come to land for breeding, raising their chicks, and molting, and live what looks like a laid-back, easy life while beach-bound, where they are mostly safe from their predators.  Gulls, petrels, cormorants, and even an occasional albatross patrol the grey skies, while Orcas, whales, dolphins and seals aren't far off in the waves.  This is inspired by my amazing opportunity this spring to visit them in their world, on Bethany Beach, Falkalnd Isalnds.   
   On thrifted burgundy corduroy, with handwoven Autumn Leaves backing (motif by Greentree Weaving), this is my own original design, embroidered free hand in high-contrast tan thread on my straight stitch industrial sewing machine:  there are two layers of recycled blue jean inside for extra protection for hands and tables.  This generouse, sturdy potholder measures apporximately9 " wide x 9".
