Blue Peacock motif has been a Greentree Weaving favorite for close to 40 years! The vibrancy and complexity of the royal blue, teal, purple, and brown colors still moves people's hearts. This purse is made of the shirt-weight hand woven fabric, fully lined with a Victorian-inspired floral print cloth, and includes a full divider with button and loop. It measures 10 1/2" wide (7 1/2" at the mouth) by 6 1/2" tall, with a generous 62" strap for easy styling (strap can be shortened on request at the time of purchase.)
The exterior button is special in its own right: a vintage metal two-piece button, most likely a reproduction of a much older design, blackened to highlight the raised design, it reads "Ludovicus Rex Pluribus Non Capit Orbis" which translates from Latin roughly to "no room on the planet for more than one King Ludovicus." There are angels holding the crest on either side, which emblem is three Fleur-de-Lis topped by a crown. This is where the fun begins: both the crest and the name Louis could very well be French. Of course, there were many King Louis in France (up to 18. I think)! But Ludovicus could also be translated to be to Ludwig, or Luigi... In particular, there is a Bavarian King Ludwig to whom this button design could be referring. I have gleaned this information from the Museum Textile Services article, online: fascinating! *Please keep in mind that colors vary in appearance on different screens and devices.
Peacock Ludovicus MEDIUM Purse
As the material is 100% preshrunk cotton, laundering is easy, should it become necessary. Make sure every pocket is empty, of course. Turn inside out. Tie the strap into a large knot to minimize tangling. Wash warm and line or tumble dry gentle.
